Pitching for Illustrators

You will be aware that we have a Pitch Slam happening at the conference.

We have had a request from Huia publishers regarding this and Illustrators.

Huia would like illustrators to pitch to them as they have a lot of
work available. You will need to show that you can draw a variety of
Maori characters. Huia are also always on the look out for good book
designers who apparently are thin on the ground and hard to find.

If you would like to pitch to Huia...Contact us at the spinning.gold09@gmail.com with Pitching in the subject heading. The Pitch Slam costs $10 payable on registration.

If you are pitching Illustration... copies of your tear sheets to give at the Pitch is probably a good idea.

We have had a good response to our Illustration sale offer.
Just a reminder...up to five pieces of work...easily transportable...bring some packaging as well so people can take it home with them if they wish...

Do you want to suggest a textbook or art resource for our list?

Hi Spinning Gold Illustrators,

We are hoping to have a range of HOW TO textbooks on sale during the conference.

Everyone will have their own preference...but there might be a few that you would recommend to others. If you would like to suggest any Art Resources that we may be able to source for you, can you also make a note of it in the comments page on this blog or by emailing us. spinning.gold09@gmail.com

Don’t bring your precious textbooks but let us know which books you would like to see available to buy.

John and Ruth McIntyre of The Children’s Bookshop have very kindly said they will get them in for us on a sale or return basis...so if you have always hankered to own The Artists Way, Can you let us know by the end of June.... Title Name, Author Name ISBN number...any other relevant information...

Beginning to Spin

Welcome to the Illustrators page of the Spinning Gold Conference.

As we get closer to the Conference weekend we will add more content to the page, so check back from time to time so you don’t miss any updates.

How can I get the most out of my conference attendance?

There will be an Illustrators Gallery. You are welcome to bring some work to display and sell. There will be space for you to have your portfolio or Tear sheets on display.

We recommend that before you come you make yourself familiar with presenter’s work where you can, especially if you are taking an intensive class.

Organise and Bring business cards.

If you are pitching....Start to prepare now.

When you are there.

Take notes.

Take pictures –bring your camera.

Talk to people. Make a new friend that you can connect with after the conference. There will be opportunities to network with your peers at different times.

Go to a wide range of workshops, you never know who you might meet that you need to.
Arrange to share notes with someone who is attending a different workshop...so you can get more information out of the conference.
